    Anti-Racist Artist

"After reading a powerful article by Dr. James Haywood Rolling, Jr., President-Elect of the National Art Education Association, Chair of the NAEA Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Commission and Professor of Arts Education, Syracuse University....it became clear to me that in order to help the racial injustice in our nation, I had to start with my self identification. This simple act alone, if done by many, can make a difference. I changed my title of Artist to Anti-Racist Artist."

    commissioned art by Kelly Haneklau

Kelly Haneklau is an internationally published free-lance anti-racist artist, art instructor, avid volunteer and philanthropist. She has her Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Art and owns and operates Minor Miracles, a working art studio, located in Bristow, Virginia where she creates commissioned art, teaches and hosts art exhibits , art camps and workshops.

Kelly's love of art has been life-long and she has always been  involved in and practicing art. So much so, that upon entering college, she felt she should branch out and connect with another love, dancing. However, an old leg injury proved to be too painful for her to continue, so she returned to art. She considers this redirection of focus confirmation in her passion, and she is extremely grateful since she cannot imagine her life any other way.

Kelly works in many applications, however, her primary medium is acrylic on paper/canvas/wood. Her work balances color, light and form carefully to culminate into a feast for the eyes. Depth in her compositions emerges like a visual journey you want to travel to again and again. Her most recent projects are focusing on the racial injustices in America. She hopes her work can help to make a difference. Kelly thrives off of the lawlessness of art, not only in her journey of admiring and collecting art, but in her own personal creations. Her art theory on style and subject matter is a simple one.

"It is not necessary to remain focused on one style or technique or genre. Thinking and creating outside the box is a must for me. There is no box to begin with."  Kelly Haneklau
